unfamiliar texts - tooth poem

  1. it's talking about the process of losing a tooth.

- alveolus- the bony socket for the root of your teeth.
- a boat attaching by cable or rope to the shore or to the anchor

 3. I took this information and interpreted it the child had lost his tooth which made him appear younger like Lazarus

IDENTIFYING THE 'POINT OF CHANGE'

  • the first point of change- "your jaw leaves an alveolus" stanza 4
  • stanza 3
  • the second point of change - " but only when your sleep do I discover a tooth" stanza 6
  • line 20
  • the atmosphere in the first 3 stanza's- the atmosphere is light and fun and almost carefree imitating what a child would feel in the moment
  • float,
  • the atmosphere of 4-6 - panic and pain
  • your eyes collect water, your gums are an ocean of blood

  • metaphor- the tooth's a boat
  • listing- shells, starfish, pipi, and paua
  • adjective- as I stoke you
  • simile- you're eleven teeth old and have grown like Lazarus
  • personal pronouns- I discover a tooth

  • simile- you're eleven teeth old and have grown like Lazarus - it makes the audience picture the image clearer.
  • personal pronouns - you're - it directly addresses the child
  • listing - shells, starfish, pipi, paua - makes their evening sound eventfull

  • they are being compared to the blood from his mouth and the teeth itself
  • this helps the reader understand the poem better and get clear imagery because the references are familiar
