Avalanches
I researched the 2010 Salang Avalanche
here is the research we did on the topic:
2010 Salang avalanches (this has the most info so far)
The 2010 Salang avalanches consisted of a series of at least 36 avalanches that struck the southern approach to the Salang tunnel, north of Kabul. They were caused by a freak storm in the Hindu Kush mountains.
Basic Facts on Avalanches
- Each year avalanches kill more than 150 people worldwide
- The human body is 3 times denser than avalanche debris and will sink quicker
- Avalanches are NOT triggered by noise
- They are triggered by:
- A steep slope
- Snow cover
- A weak layer of snow in the snow cover
- A trigger which causes a weak layer of snow within the pack to collapse
