How to eat a poem?
by Eve Merriam

Eating poetry
by Mark Strand

Unfolding bud
by Naoshi Koriyama

what do these poems suggest the way we should approach poetry?
- to enjoy a poem like you would a good meal and to "eat" it
- to be careless and wild with it, like if a dog were to have eaten it
- to see the deeper meaning and wait for it to unfold itself

what is one specific example?
- "don't be polite, bite in"
- "there was no happiness like mine, I had been eating poetry"
- " to see the poem gradually unfolding, revealing it's rich inner self"
